SF #226 – We Are Who We Are

November 19, 2015 by Success Freaks

On this episode of Success Freaks, we open with one topic and organically change direction to another.  We SF #226 - We Are Who We Are - ALBUM ART-ARlearn about Mordant’s visit with IRUSA, and that ‘People are people’ (♫ so, why should it beeeeee… ♫).  Our conversation uses a different group of people to show similarity.  In the Level Up, we discuss ‘acceptance vs tolerance’.  And in On Beyond, we  argue about owning our behavior vs. the consideration of all.

What begins as a show about team building, quickly morphs into a frank discussion about Mordant’s experience at the Islamic Relief USA offices, the similarities in people different from us, diversity, racism, and moving from prejudice to tolerance and onto acceptance.  Join the Success Freaks as they take a look at some of the difficulty inherent in moving out from your comfort zone of knowing only people who are familiar to you to having new friends with different backgrounds.

Danielle shares her journey—from interning for a country radio station, reading the news and horoscopes, to becoming a reporter for a small TV station in VA, and on down the tangled highway to where she is now, working on Weather Channel.  Listen as Danielle talks about the good times, the bad, and the defining moment that gave her a new perspective on life.  Strength and courage help us get through the struggles if we just “stay true to ourselves and do the right thing.”

“I’m honored to have the chance to tell people not to give up.  I’ve worked with (and for) some pretty mean-spirited people in this business.  They tried to pull me down and, in the end, they didn’t.  I tell people to stay true to themselves and do the right thing.  Undermining and revenge only works in the movies.  Never burn your bridges….you never know who you will work with again in this business down the line.  In the end, I still believe hard work and patience pays off…although I’m still working on that patience thing!”  Wise words from our guest star, Danielle Banks.
