Success Freaks #99 – Success Freakin’ Finances – Guest Starring Hugh from “The Rhode Show”

Trying out a new adventure in live entertainment. We have partnered up with Marcy Rosenbaum and The Livelihood Show to bring her in live once a month before our show.  After the hand off we are joined by Hugh of The Rhode Show to finish up May 2013 and Success Freakin’ Finances!  As we prepare for show #100 we get to the heart of this month’s theme – aptly called “Success Freakin’ Finances.”

This Success Freaks episode sees Mordant & McFall giving updates on how they have managed their finances & applied (or didn’t apply) the teaching of Dave Ramsey, The Law of Attraction vs overreaching with credit, a lively discussion on saving vs spending,  planning for the future both near and far,  and owning your own finances.

Join in on laughter, shared stories, and a clue or two about dealing with your own Success Freakin’ Finances. You will see the widely differing opinions on credit, defining need, and spending your money all the while laughing along with us. You may agree or disagree, but you will always have something to think about as you go on with your life.

High energy and hi-jinx blast through the Bear’s Den Studio in Monticello, Georgia when Mordant returns from his six-month (or so) sabbatical.  Bursting onto the Success Freaks scene for the first time is comic-book artist, singer, songwriter, beat-box mouth magician—the self-proclaimed “Jane of all Trades,” Afua Richardson.Over the course of the next hour, Afua, aka “Dr. Foo,” takes the show from comedic to introspective via her laughter, stories, and Michael Winslow-esque mouth noises.

Sharing a little of her family history and the rough spots she’s been through, even lately, Afua shows that anything is possible for those willing to take on the tough breaks and use them to mold your character and shape your reality for the better.

Success Via Adversity

I was barely out of my teens over twenty years ago when I went to the New and Gauley Rivers in West Virginia to train to be a whitewater rafting guide. Women were really just breaking into the scene so the entire area was heavily dominated by men. This in itself wasn’t the least bit concerning since my desire to guide had nothing at all to do with the male to female ratio. What was concerning, as I soon came to find out, was the blatant sexism displayed by some male guides, trainers, and company owners. I selected one company out of a dozen to train with and throughout most of a year with them I endured being talked down to, sardonic attitudes, and never-ending attempts to make me fail. I was repeatedly put into situations to deliberately push me past my physical and psychological limits in the hopes that I would just give up; many trainees did, after all. This kind of adversity is what I faced spring, summer, and fall while training with “Company A”. But let me tell you the outcome.
