Success Freaks #128 – Beyond Nuclear – Family in the 21st Century

December 17, 2013 by Success Freaks

Welcome to the new millenium!  We may not have flying cars, interstellar space travel, or a healthcare system everyone can agree upon….  We do, however, in this day and age, have a family unit that stretches on beyond the “boundaries” of what was once considered the “Nuclear Family.”  What once began as a One-Stop Mom & Pop Shop has now has now stretched beyond the “norm” to make room for not only single moms and single dads, but also double moms, double dads, grandparents & siblings taking on the role of traditional parents, and even – in some rare cases – the chillins a-raisin’ they’selves.  What’s this world coming to?  Is this a sign of the “End Times” as talked about in the movie Ghostbusters!?  “Mass hysteria!  Dogs & cats living together…!”

Join Mordant & McFall as they show you around the big top of this multi-ring family circus.  In an age where “the norm” is no longer normal, it’s time to rethink our concept of the Nuclear Family and reshape it into what it truly is.  Family is Family.  As long as there is love and nurturing and a parental unit willing and able to teach a kid to throw a fastball, children raised in those homes will grow up healthy, happy and as well-adjusted as the rest of us “normal” people.  Perhaps, even enjoying a better life than we dreamed possible. Success Freaks #127 – Broken Home Survival Guide w/Special Guest Our Very Own SF Kim Glowacki

December 11, 2013 by Success Freaks

Sometimes life deals you a bum hand. The family life you are born into does not match the rich experiences as the ones you see on television. Sometimes bad things happen to good people. Including you. What do you do when the dust settles and you are shuffled back and forth from one broken, bitter post-divorce home to another? Is it all your fault? Wasn’t there something you could have done to keep your family from winding up just another broken statistic? And, what about the homes that are broken without breaking apart? How can anyone, let alone a child, survive these domestic warzones? PTSD anyone?

In this episode, Mordant & McFall are joined by fellow SF teammate Success Freaks Kim. Together they suss through the lows and highs of living in and living beyond a broken home. Even sharing some of their own experiences from both sides of the glass houses they have lived in. Listen, laugh, and learn a little somethin’-somethin’ about surviving a broken home. [Read more…]

Success Freaks #126 – Family First

December 3, 2013 by Success Freaks

The month of December heralds a time of holiday get-togethers with friends and family alike. It is a time of joy, holiday cheer, and smiles across the table… But, not always, right? Sometimes “bad blood” and hurts long buried rise from the grave like Christmas zombies to gnaw the flesh off what should be a happier time.

In this episode of “Success Freaks,” Mordant & McFall wax candid about their family upbringings, holiday experiences, and the reality of their “obligations.” Delving into how these “family affairs” helped mold them into the men they are today, they explore what it means to grow from their original nuclear family to create ones of their own. As well as, how the “ghosts of holiday experiences past” are affecting them in the present and into future. [Read more…]
