Social Media outlets like Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ have been instrumental in people reaching out and touching the world. However, these amazing connectors, these awesome uniters (which may or may not be a word) can also act like buffers, causing people to keep in touch more via social media than through face-to-face “real conversations.”
Is there a problem here?
Are we losing touch with humanity by constantly staying in touch digitally?
In this episode of Success Freaks, our “More Than Just Facebook Friends” Comedic Motivational show hosts, Mordant & McFall, bring up the subject of the life we all lead “On Beyond Facebook.”
This is not to say that Social Media as a whole is bad. Obviously, a lot of good comes from Social Media. Friendships are formed, ideas are birthed and come to fruition, the voice of the people in politics—not just ours, but all over the world—is finally being heard. However, we need to take things further. On Beyond the buffer of Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Google+, etc. Take these friendships we’ve formed, this social interaction we are enjoying, to another level. Let’s not, in using our superpower of reaching out and touching the world, forget our basic need for physical human contact.

Last month I shared my first Goal for 2013 which was To Learn More. I’ve purchased a couple of new books to read…mostly self-helpy…and I’m eyeing a mystery or two that kinda intrigue me. It’s a start, but you’re here to find out what my next goal is. My second Goal for 2013 fits quite nicely into our February theme here on Success Freaks. My Second Goal, quite simply, is to learn to love myself more…to treat myself better than I have…to make my wants, my needs, my happiness a priority. Easier said than done…

It’s a really good quote and so very appropriate for this Goal. (Thanks Mordant) It seems like I’ve spent most of my life trying to please others. I always try to go out of my way to make sure my friends, family, and even complete strangers are happy. If someone expresses a desire for something, I try to make sure they get it. While this may be quite noble, thoughtful or whatever, it’s also allowed me to push myself into more debt than I should be swimming in. Up until recently, I’ve never said “No” to anyone that asked anything of me. Even if I knew I would have to add to my credit card debt, even if it meant I would have to sacrifice something I wanted/needed, even if it meant I would have to suck it up and do something I really wasn’t comfortable with…even if it meant that I would be cast in a dark light just to make someone else shine.

This month marks the beginning of “themed months” here on Success Freaks. February’s theme is “Relationships” and Mordant & McFall will tackle different types of relationship issues each week. Tonight this “Knight in Shining Armor” Comedic Motivational Show is all about the relationship you have with yourself, loving yourself, and being responsible for you own happiness.
The first step you must take on your path is to realize that you are responsible for your Life experiences. You are responsible for your own happiness. You, you, Y-O-U! For you to have the best life possible…or even just a better life, you have to accept responsibility for what happens in it and especially your own happiness. If you’re waiting for your “White Knight” to come to your rescue, you’re going to be waiting a long time. When it comes to “Saving Your Life,” you have to believe that the person best suited and most reliable to come to your rescue…is you.
This is where your journey of self-actualization begins. Start loving yourself enough to take responsibility for your Truth…your Consequences…your Life. “Every master started off as a disaster.” ~ T Harv Eker ~ When you become responsible you can fix whatever needs fixin’ in your own life.

I define mental hoarding as having and continuing to amass vast amounts of information, usually on the same topic (self-help, in my case), and being unable to put it into practice, due to an overload of contradictory data or seeking more information before thinking a choice of action can be made.
I feel I have suffered from this type mental hoarding. I’ve told myself for years that I had a love of self-help information – books, TV shows, audio tapes, and podcasts, to name a few. My need to consume information would wax and wane as events in my life passed, but if a good source crossed my path, I would snatch it up immediately. I wouldn’t always consume it, but I knew I could at anytime that it was needed. However, the only times I tried to use empowering self-help information were when things were not going the way I wanted them to. For over 20 years, I consumed knowledge. But with all the information, nothing seemed to stick. I always sought out more information, more knowledge, more something that I thought would be the key to actually accomplishing something.
In this day & age of 10ish% Unemployment, who can afford to “do what you love”? I say, in this day & age of depression, who can afford not to do what you love!? But…what do “voodoo” and “doing what you love” have in common? Nothing really…It’s a play on words. A catchy title. But, there is a little bit of magic that comes along with “doing what you love”… not only magic, it even requires at least a mustard seed’s worth of faith.
In this episode of Success Freaks, your Voodoo-Hoodoo Comedic Motivational show hosts, Mordant & McFall, tell us what it took for them to get out there and do what they love. By doing what you love, you are living your life. By doing what you love, you are loving yourself enough to do what makes you happy. Do what you love and you’ll put some of that magic you had as a kid back in your life. That magical feeling you had when you could be anything you wanted. Back when life was fun and full of possibility…and…it’s going to take a lot of Faith to do it.
